Since starting her journalism career in 2000 at daily maritime newspaper Lloyd's List, Carly has undertaken a variety of freelance reports for a number of maritime-related journals.

This has included monthly contributions on the oil market to Lloyd's Shipping Economist, dry bulk market analysis for the International Bulk Journal, panamax grain commentaries for Reuters Newswire and marine-related reports for Lloyd's List, Lloyd's Ship Manager, Lloyd's Cruise International and Tanker Operator. She is highly experienced at reporting from conferences and has travelled extensively as part of this work.

Carly is also the Editor of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers' quarterly magazine Shipping Network. To coincide with a change of editorship, this magazine doubled in size and changed from two to four colours. Carly oversaw that expansion and pushed the ICS' official literature into the twenty-first century, a change that was well received by members and the industry at large. She was also responsible for the creation, editing and publishing of a monthly ezine for the same organisation.

Meanwhile, as Editor of the monthly Port Strategy magazine, Carly controls and manages the editorial content for this highly respected magazine, which has a international readership of 6,000, with a heavy emphasis on top level port management. Carly also oversaw a successful redesign of this 50-page full colour magazine, shortly after taking over the editorship in 2006.

Prior to turning freelance early in 2006, Carly managed a publishing programme for 170-plus special reports published annually as the Special Reports Editor for Lloyd's List. As Editor of these reports, she ensured that the final product went out on time and was of the highest quality. The role included seeking out potential leads for report topics, organising and providing guidance to a staff of 40 around the world and commissioning copy. At the other end of the spectrum, she was responsible for editing copy, subbing, liaising with sub-editors and proofing final pages before going to press. Under her employment at Lloyd's List, Carly also held the titles of Deputy News Editor, Markets Editor and Markets Reporter.
